At first, I was attracted by the lights and their reflections on the water. Then I noticed that they were counters running from 1 to 9, each at a different pace. Finally, I learnt that the paces were chosen by the villagers and I felt that they were present in the work, each with their own rythm.

This project is part of the "Art House Project" in Naoshima, a small island in Japan. Artists took over some empty houses in a residential village and turned them into works of art. For Sea of Time '98, the artist worked with local villagers so that they could participate and engage with the artwork, blending contemporary art with the lives of the islanders.
